Building support in the fight against public spending cuts
Published: 18 November, 2010
• THE demonstration on October 20 to show our opposition to the coalition government’s devastating cuts in public spending was a huge success, with over 3,000 people marching from Lincoln’s Inn Fields to Whitehall.
However, the fight has just begun.
It is estimated Camden Council will have to save £90million over two to three years. This will affect housing estates, schools and voluntary organisations. The health service and emergency services also face the prospect of huge cuts. This affects every individual, every organisation and everything about the way that we live and work in the borough.
As such, we would like to set up a new organisation, provisionally called Camden United Against the Cuts.
We hope that this will be supported by tenants and residents’ associations, unions, political parties and community support groups.
CUAC will help co-ordinate the campaign against these ConDem cuts and maintain a dialogue with all organisations to see how you are being affected and how you can campaign with us.
A lobby of the council has already been organised for December 1 from 6pm at Camden Town Hall. This will be when the council’s cabinet will take major decision about its own budget and we encourage as many groups as possible to attend and make deputations.
