Boris’s bizarre bike policy

Published: 11 November, 2010

• IT’S bizarre that the London mayor does not want to encourage more people to cycle in Camden (Camden ‘too hilly for hire bikes’ – Boris, November 4).

Boris Johnson expresses misplaced concern over the wellbeing of cyclists he fears cannot handle hills. Meanwhile, he proposes to encourage cyclists onto the dangerous one-way system in King’s Cross.

He’s just told the London Assembly that he has no plans to improve safety on dangerous roads round King’s Cross but was thinking of adding a cycle lane to Swinton and Acton streets.

On these streets traffic speeds are high and likely to be dangerous for cyclists.

Speeds need to be brought down before cycling can be encouraged.
