Wall-to-wall books OK

• IT was too good to last – a calm, restful, beautiful space much-loved by the local community.
The Heath Library was a true jewel. How could this have been allowed to happen?
As a regular user I was never informed of any consultation, real or imagined, only told the library would be closed for alterations and I feared the worst; which has happened under our noses. Someone had another agenda and the sort of power which shows an underlying contempt for local people and the fabric of their lives.
The design was perfect as it was; a quiet space in a corner with tea machine, wall-to-wall books to stimulate the imagination if one so chose, a few computers kept in their place… and low, comfortable, seating much appreciated by elderly and disabled and Domino, the ginger tom, RIP,
who knew a good thing when he saw it and snoozed away the literary hours, petted by all who loved their library the way it was.
I’ve got a novel idea. Let’s put it all back in a nice democratic way book by book, chair by chair, for those who deserve better.
Don’t go quietly. Demand answers and action. Oh, and by the way, let’s put up a plaque to Domino as a finishing touch.
