• APART from using a reference book I have generally been unaware of shelves and book stock.
I have been concentrating on checking specific titles, from reviews and articles, some of these being in the “invisible” stack.
However, having just said a sad farewell to the one remaining “familiar face” at Swiss Cottage, I have now become dependent on the home library service (operating from Highgate). It also appears that a high proportion of titles on my list are not available in Camden.
So it does seem that Alan Templeton (Letters, May 20) does have a point about a diminishing book stock.
As to a “can I help you?” (like a pushy shop assistant), it would cause me to beat a hasty retreat.
If I needed any “help” I would go to the desk (if there still is a desk).
And, isn’t it a bit late in the day for Linda Chung to be writing to Mike Clarke about “consultation”?
It is clear that this was only cosmetic, as her fellow Liberal Democrat councillor, Flick Rea, was one of the main perpetrators.
