Threat to ticket office

Published: 21 May 2010

• I AM writing to invite readers to join our STATiON! (Save The Arsenal Ticket Office Now!) campaign.

We have recently discovered that Transport for London (TfL), in proposals hidden away on its website, is proposing to reduce still further the opening hours of the ticket office at Arsenal Tube station. For example, on Saturdays, when the ticket office is currently open all day, TfL is proposing that it should be open only from 10.15am to 2pm. And on weekdays, it would be open for an even shorter period (from 7.30am to 9.45am only).

Anyone who regularly uses Arsenal Tube will know how fantastic the staff there are. Quite apart from the risks to passenger safety, this threat to jobs is doubly concerning at this time of economic recession.

And the Arsenal cuts are just part of the bigger picture, as the RMT trade union has recently pointed out, London Underground wants to cut 800 station staff jobs across the Tube network.

To support the campaign to save the ticket office, please get in touch via the “contact us” details on our website (islington.greenparty.org.uk).
