Stop the prejudice

• PRECISELY the same amount has been set aside for the coming military offensive in Kandahar province as the government’s first wave of spending cuts.
Yet the latest opinion poll has shown 77 per cent of the public do not support the Afghan war, which US army chiefs admit cannot be won.
Central London Stop the War Coalition recently did a stall petition on the forecourt of Charing Cross station about this matter in which commuters were invited to sign individual letters for posting to Foreign Secretary William Hague making this very point, an offer that was willingly taken up, and many also signed up to be informed of upcoming events.
One very direct extra result of the state cuts in spending and attacks on the poor is that the blame for these things can be placed unfairly on others.
The next event therefore that Stop the War is organising is a Stop Islamophobia conference, in the Camden Centre in Bidborough Street on June 5.
Everyone is welcome to attend, and further information about this meeting may be obtained on 020 7801 2768.
