Rudeness of middle classes

Published: 20 May, 2010

• WE already have anti-social practices on our pavements, people walking straight at one with no intention of diversion for any reason and walking straight across one’s path  looking neither left or right. How did this happen?
It cannot be blamed on the young and feckless because it is the professional classes who are by far the most arrogantly self-possessed and take up this practice, mowing us down as if we are totally invisible.

Walking very slowly down the stairs at the Coliseum a middle-class young woman insulted me for my speed despite being able to walk easily past me with her friends.
I would not spoil a wonderful evening with an angry response but this is another example of privileged arrogance.
These practices don’t need complaints. In a civilised society they simply should not have sprung up as accepted behaviour.
