Our aim is to improve the Brunel estate

• THE article ‘Show of strength’ at Brunel (May 7) did not include a response from Westminster Council.
I would reassure residents on the Brunel estate that our aim is to improve the estate, which we believe is a tremendous opportunity for local people, but it’s important to state from the outset that this project is at a very early stage.
No decisions have been made and the architects who will work with residents to examine how the existing buildings and local facilities could be improved have not even been appointed yet.
On May 24 between 11am and 8pm we are holding an open day where residents will be able to talk to representatives from three firms of architects and ask questions about the improvements they would like to see. Their views will help decide which of the firms is successful. Our goal is to improve the homes and lives for the people living in this estate and we have already publicly promised that we will not carry out the works if a majority of residents oppose them.
We want residents to be involved every step of the way and would encourage them to contribute their ideas on how their neighbourhood could be improved during the forthcoming consultation for their area.
