New era politics - a welcome for the LibCon coalition
Published: 21 May 2010
• I WELCOME this new era for British politics which comes with our coalition government.
I would like to thank all those West End Extra readers who voted for us and I am delighted that their votes have not been wasted as Liberal Democrat policies will shape Britain for good.
I congratulate Karen Buck MP on her success.
I know she will continue to fight hard in our interests as constituents. I apologise to anyone who did not receive our election address. Because of our limited resources compared with the other two main parties, we did target our efforts towards Bayswater where we came close to getting our first Westminster councillor since 1919.
But we did pay for every household in Westminster to receive at least two mailings from us.
We have launched an inquiry to find out how many were undelivered and why this happened.
I campaigned in the election for key Liberal Democrat policies, for fairer taxes, a new-economy, a fair start for children and a new politics.
As my party enters government we are already seeing those promises realised.
We are seeing a new era of British politics and we have an amazing opportunity for a new kind of government, working together and delivering policies we have been campaigning on for years.
