Let’s live and let live with our beautiful urban foxes
Published: 13 May, 2010
• IN response to the letter demanding the extermination of our fox population, I was so appalled at the programme a few years ago showing a neighbouring borough spending council money shooting foxes that I wrote to a local councillor asking that Camden Council did not do this.
The response stated they did not for which we as a family were very grateful.
We love our foxes and don’t mind at all that they use our garden as a shortcut and a refuge.
It is actually our cats who attack the foxes.
Urban foxes have a very short life expectancy but there is a very beautiful elderly one who visits and he is enchanting.
I have never seen a fox as elderly as him.
We would be appalled if an extermination policy was mooted.
Despite being an important part of our lives these foxes play an important role in keeping the rat population down.
No animal within our environment should be hunted to extinction – in any way shape or form.
