• As your readers will know, Camden has retained a Green presence on the council, despite the surge towards Labour in Camden reflecting their strong performance on a parliamentary level in London.
I’d like to thank residents in Highgate ward for their support. This came on the same day as our Green Party Westminster breakthrough with Caroline Lucas being elected in Brighton.
In Camden, we will seek to continue to play a key role.
Since we were not part of the last administration either, we have the advantage of an independent vantage point to do this, as well as a Green perspective on issues.
One of the first requests I have made to officers relates to the contract to build the new school, which will shortly be awarded (if the Building Schools for the Future project is to go ahead). I have asked that officers seek to negotiate greater provision for apprenticeships, and to strengthen the requirement that related services and equipment are sourced locally. I have asked that the contract stipulates that workers involved are paid no less than the London living wage.
My challenge to the new Labour administration is to pursue these issues strongly so the contracts that we get truly benefit residents
