Fight for Mayfair
• RESIDENTS in Mayfair are increasingly unhappy with the way that the interests of the local environment and community have been, and are being, totally ignored.
The fiasco over the planned Park Site development, and the disastrous “development” of Mount Street, are two current examples of this.
While the existing network of residents’ groups in the West End have achieved some minor victories, on the whole, Westminster Council, the transport authorities, and the property developers pay no attention to these groups.
Some of us in Mayfair have decided that enough is enough. We are proposing to form a new association, The North Mayfair Residents’ Group.
Its membership will be wholly residential, unlike the existing Mayfair and Soho residents’ groups where there is a significant commercial membership.
We will be holding a public meeting at St Marks church, North Audley Street, on June 1, starting at 7pm.
We would welcome all nearby residents to come along to the meeting.
We not only want to gather local support for the new group but we also want to hear people’s views which could be incorporated into the group’s policies.
Our central objectives are to (a) create an effective focal point for residential unhappiness with the current policies for the West End, and
(b) establish an effective channel of communication for this unhappiness both with Westminster Council and the private and public organisations who together are blighting our neighbourhoods.
