Are crimes now just par for the course?

Published: 21 May 2010

• I AM concerned regarding police responses to possible incidents in our area, or should I say the lack of response.

Recently I rang regarding some persons loitering.

This used to be treated as a possible criminal activity.

The police response was one of indifference – too busy dealing with other more important matters. Yet, my suspicions were confirmed when these individuals actually burst their way into our block through a “security door”.

We are constantly reminded of so-called Safer Neighbourhoods activity but where are the police on the beat?

They are non-existent in my experience.

No doubt police are spending time writing up reports to issue to the army of social services personnel instead of getting out on the streets and dealing with the problems.

One example is cycling on pavements, often at speeds likely to cause serious injury to pedestrians. This is constant in the Ladbroke Grove area and has persisted for years.

Are we are living in a time of lawlessness where activities once regarded as criminal are now regarded as “par for the course” and ignored?
