Allowances cover-up

• I WAS disappointed to discover the new leader of the council, Councillor Catherine West, and her executive have already backtracked on their promises – only a few weeks after the elections.

They vowed to “slash” their special responsibility allowances by 16 per cent if elected to power. However, it has become apparent this decrease will in reality be a measly two per cent.

Labour has tried to cover its tracks by admitting this 16 per cent figure included cuts from 2008, when it was in opposition.
Cllr West and her team should have been clear and not fooled the public with their small print. I hope this cover-up isn’t a sign of things to come.
