Action, not more talk

• YOU report that one of the new Labour council’s first acts was to set up a Fairness Commission (New regime makes fairness and affordable housing top priorities, May 21).

Nobody can argue that the borough’s politicians should always be looking to make Islington a fairer place. But Liberal Democrats believe that Labour’s new quango is a total and utter waste of time and money when council cash is tighter than ever.

It will tell us nothing that isn’t already known about levels of poverty in the borough. Most importantly, while we wait for the commission to report nothing will happen to tackle the issue of fairness in Islington.

Labour wants its quango to set out what the council should do and how its budget should be spent. But we have just had elections for that. It seems Labour are clueless and are making it up as they go along.

We all know what needs to change in Islington to make the borough fairer. Let’s just get on and do it and not waste time and money with pointless talking shops.
