Will doctors come out in support of Whittington?

• YOUR campaign to save the Whittington’s casualty unit has been nothing short of inspiring.
For thousands to take to the streets in defence of this vital service demonstrates the strength of the cause.
However, I feel some politicians are merely jumping on the band-wagon motivated solely by cynical electioneering.
Not a week goes by without some variety of Liberal Democrat, from Vince Cable and his try-hard understudy Nick Clegg to our very own Ed Fordham, popping up in your pages to offering hand-wringing, heart-melting platitudes in a vain effort to convince voters that “they are on our side”.
Such an effort insults the intelligence of the people who live in Camden and Islington. These people are treating us like fools.
The Lib Dems control NHS Islington. They knew about these plans for a full six weeks but only bothered to appear to take action or even brief their council colleagues, when they read about the public outrage in the local papers.
Lib Dems in Camden and Islington have long been sleeping on the job and have consistently failed to stand up for local people on the issues that matter. However, from their election literature they would have us believe that they are our guardian angels.
I have painful memories of my time as Leader of the Youth Council, when the Lib Dems closed down youth facilities in Camden Town while simultaneously showering residents in leaflets claiming they were campaigning against the cuts.
It can only be wrong for any party to seek to bamboozle voters in this way.
The Lib Dems have been in the driving seat in Camden for four years, and in Islington for eight.
I am confident that voters will see through what is clearly a thinly-veiled electoral fad and surely beyond contempt.
