Why was there no help to clear up raw sewage?
Published: 4 March 2010
• ON Sunday February 21 considerable quantities of raw sewage began to pour into Lamble Street and Oak Village from a drain on Kiln Place estate.
This was duly reported to Camden Council by local tenants’ and residents’ associations.
A week later still nothing had happened and, as chair of the DMC (district management committee), I rang the council emergency line constantly, the first time at around 3.30pm in the afternoon, followed by every hour from around 7pm onwards, the order went out twice for the jetters to attend and fix the problem.
Promises and statements to the contrary nothing was done.
The visible evidence and stench was disgusting and constituted a major health hazard as pedestrians, children and adults alike, and cars had to wade and drive through the faeces.
This is yet further evidence of the severe neglect of Gospel Oak ward by the council.
I am sure that if there had been a similar situation in other, more affluent, parts of the borough residents would not have had to put up with this.
Why are the residents expected to live like this and ignored when they call the council for help?
One wonders what do the residents that live in the above mentioned areas need to do for any action from the council.
Here we are with a serious problem that nobody wants to know about.
Camden, what will it take to stop this kind of behaviour towards residents who live in your streets, and what will it take for this problem to be addressed once and for all??
