Unacceptable to accuse the deputy mayor of bias

Published: 18th March 2010

• I WAS surprised to read Sean Birch’s attack on deputy mayor Councillor Lulu Mitchell (Tell us why five primaries are to ‘lose’ £20m funding, March 11).
He wants to be a councillor, so he should know a deputy mayor’s role is ceremonial and non-political.
It is unacceptable that he should be accusing her of chairing a council meeting with bias.
What offends me most about Sean Birch’s criticism of our local councillor, Lulu Mitchell, is that the deputy mayor was doing Camden residents a massive favour by chairing this meeting in the first place.
The current mayor is not doing any of his duties while allegations of benefit fraud are being investigated. Lulu is doing his duties for him and is getting nothing for it.
Sean Birch has put out a Labour leaflet in Gospel Oak claiming that the deputy mayor voted to cut internet funding at this very same meeting.
The deputy mayor could not have possibly voted at the meeting because she was chairing it. (I watched the webcast of the meeting.)
Sean Birch ought not to have written these things about someone who is serving Camden so selflessly.
I certainly won’t be voting for him in the election.
