Street action

Published: 26th March, 2010

• ENSURING safer streets is a vital part of Labour’s practical and common-sense approach to running Westminster after the next elections.
Our Safer Streets pledge includes the following five key promises;
l we will crack down on anti-social behaviour, knife crime and dangerous dogs by closer working with the police Safer Neighbourhoods teams;
l we will use Westminster’s 100 wifi CCTV cameras to catch criminals, rather than fine motorists;
l we will improve street-lighting and repair dangerous pavements and broken street lights within 24 hours of them being reported;
l We will introduce more cycle lanes and take strong action against pavement cycling.
l we welcome the government’s plans to introduce compulsory dog-chipping and we will extend dog-socialising classes across Westminster to encourage responsible dog ownership.
We will move council spending to these vital front-line services and will stop the expenditure currently wasted on producing expensive glossy leaflets and
self-congratulatory council propaganda.
