Let down by cameras

Published: 5 March 2010

• I AM astounded at the ridiculous, and ever-growing, number of CCTV cameras on our streets, but when I had my bike nicked the other day (with two child seats on, front and back) the cameras were too high for the police to get a clear picture of the thief.
Equally, when the local bike shop stated that the thief had been in to ask for tools to help remove the child seats, its CCTV cameras were not working.
It’s amazing how, when it comes to images of my car being less than a minute in a yellow box, the pictures are as clear as day.
The council has its priorities wrong in my view: too happy to thieve from people’s pockets for minor offences, and not enough spent on keeping young people engaged and active in the community.
