Insight into Troubles

Published: 19 March 2010

• I AM delighted to read that Martin Lynch’s Long Kesh Chronicles is on its way to London (Unlocking Maze secrets, March 12). However, I am a bit worried that it will be categorised as of interest only to the Irish community and the odd English activist.

Nothing could be further from the truth. It is ringing with honesty and humanity (and no little humour) and provides an insight into a crucial chapter in The Troubles.

Recently, I spent several months in Belfast, where I was privileged to see The Long Kesh Chronicles and to discuss it with people (Nationalist and Loyalist). The play made a special impression on all of them, including Loyalists. I remember having a conversation with a former Loyalist paramilitary who acknowledged its value.

Martin Lynch and his company take pains to tell the truth as they see it. Long Kesh Chronicles approaches its subject with reverence and artistic integrity.
