Firestop hazard
Published: 5 March 2010
• STEPHEN Kirrage fails to mention that the constant breakdown of Spa Green estate’s new hot-water system, and the need to break a single job into two rather official-sounding “phases” is the direct consequence of delays and overruns, which are themselves the result of poor management on Homes for Islington’s part (Hot water on its way, February 26).
I bet Stephen doesn’t even know that highly flammable bits of polystyrene were going to be the only firestop between floors where new pipes had been fitted in my flat? My wife had to persuade a sub-contracted worker to go and buy the proper materials in order to meet these most basic but fundamental safety standards.
I wonder if polystyrene has been used elsewhere in the estate where firestops should be in place?
Is this value for money? Is this legal? Is this responsible? Is this safe?
