Farewell to old estate
Published: 12 March 2010
• ON behalf of residents, I would like to say a big thank-you to everyone involved in the Market Estate Project, which culminated in the huge event on Saturday.
The final stage of the decant and start of the demolition of the last of the old estate was always going to be an Islington event but the whole day exceeded our expectations.
It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Southern Housing Group and Higgins, with contributions from the Arts Council and the Big Lottery Fund.
The artists have been amazing – some became residents too. They are part of our community’s history.
Chris Nyampeta has been the soundtrack to our life for the past week through Market Estate Radio.
To all the 75 artists and 66 site-specific projects, a huge thank-you. No tribute would be adequate for the remarkable creative group that produced and curated the project, TallTales – Gadi Sprukt for his vision, Helmut Feder, Nathan Lyons, Giulia Sala and Ellie Resvanis, alongside Vicky Lewis with the amazing organisation.
