Beyond tenants’ law

Published: 25th March 2010

• I MUST admit to being somewhat puzzled at Anna Moore’s letter (Decent Homes and the law, March 4) advising Camden tenants on tenancy law.
I can tell tenants that direct refusal to allow incompetent contractors in remains quite an effective protest.
If Camden sends you threatening letters just insist on speaking to the area housing manager, make sure you openly record the conversation and don’t let him or her evade questions.
It is likely the high-salaried area housing manager will attempt to avoid such a meeting and send a lower member of staff.
Insist otherwise.
This tends to stop the threatening letters and gets your concerns taken more seriously as highly-paid council staff hate nothing more than speaking to tenants and will do anything to avoid such meetings.
I wasn’t going to vote at the forthcoming general election as I’ve lost all faith in politicians ability to get anything done.
But then I saw your article about Tamsin Omond standing for parliament in my constituency.
Now there seems to be a girl who knows about direct action.
She certainly seems more committed to representing local people over some ghastly political party’s instructions.
I’ll await Ms Omond’s full manifesto but she’s the first candidate to stir me into even thinking about voting.
Other parties take note.
