Apolitical

• I AM writing as a parent governor of Carlton Primary School, to distance myself from the letter of Sean Birch (Tell us why five primaries are to
‘lose’ £20m funding, March 11).
The letter had been cleared with neither me, nor any of my fellow governors, and I am horrified that it might have given the impression that we, as governors, are a politically biased group. We are not.
Carlton School’s governors work purely for the advantage of the school’s children, and not for any political party. Yes, there are arguments to be had with the council over funding for the school, but these should be conducted apolitically, and not in the pro-Labour fashion Sean Birch’s letter seems to wish for the governors. He should not be using his position as a school governor to get himself elected as a Gospel Oak councillor, and I take a very dim view of his letter.
Sean Birch needs to decide who he is serving as a school governor, Carlton’s children, or the Labour Party?
If it is the latter, then maybe he should step down as school governor.
Our school does not belong to any political party. Our school is ours!
