Will cuts hit schools?
Published: 25 June, 2010
• LOCAL Labour politicians have been scaremongering about the government programme to improve local secondary schools – Building Schools for the Future – in Islington.
In fact, I have confirmed with council officers that construction of new school buildings at Elizabeth Garrett Anderson and Islington Arts and Media School has just started and plans are well under way for the next phase of new school buildings.
I’m far more concerned about the council’s other building programmes funded by Islington residents.
We have already heard that big leisure projects like Finsbury Leisure Centre may be scrapped by Labour.
What else is it planning to cancel now it is in power and holding the council purse strings?
Are the new Moreland and Ashmount primary school buildings safe or are they next on the list of Labour’s cutbacks?
