Town Hall efficiencies must be based on trust

• YOU suggest (Comment, June 3) that if councillors bend their minds they could save millions by employing fewer consultants but that this would require intense analysis of which they are unlikely to be capable.
I am sure this is true and suggest, as an alternative, that honest consultations with staff would produce most of the ideas for improving efficiency that we surely need.
But, and this is a big but, it could not be achieved without a substantial level of trust between all levels of staff which itself would need to be established and supported by councillors.
It would not be practical to promise no redundancy for the indefinite future but to get the trust required to release ideas for change and efficiency, some kind of commitment about staff levels would be necessary
