Support for our local shopkeepers
Published: 10 June, 2010
• I REMEMBER going into the late Theo Georgiou’s shop in Tufnell Park Road this past winter to buy something small and I found him wrapped in scarves, and jumping up and down to keep warm (Shopkeeper ‘with a heart of gold’, Obituary, June 3).
He didn’t have enough money to pay to heat his shop. The friend whom I was visiting said that several grocery chains had opened in the neighbourhood, like Sainsbury’s in Fortess Road. People deserted Mr Georgiou’s shop for lower prices in the supermarket chains.
This is so sad. If we really value the service they give us, we must support local small businesses by shopping locally!
