Steven will be missed

Published: 3 June, 2010

• I WAS saddened to read of Steven Fry’s comparatively early death in Josie Hinton’s tribute to him (Steven overcame all odds, May 27).

I didn’t know him that well, but he lived nearby, as I used to see him as a small boy riding around on his bike: he was a friendly soul and he is to be much admired by the way he overcame so many problems.

He will be sadly missed for the good work he did in the community.

But, perhaps not a lot of people know what a good singing voice he had, on the one occasion I heard him singing, during a karaoke evening at the Neptune pub in Werrington Street.

I cannot remember what he sang, except that it was very poignant and – as a musician myself – I thought what a professional manner he had.

With more than 600 people attending his funeral, he must have been greatly loved.

I send my condolences to his sister Anne Hudson, and the rest of his family.
