Sobell: time for revamp
Published: 4 June 2010
• AS one of a large number of pensioners who regularly make use of the gym at the Sobell Leisure Centre I am sure that the programme of exercises I undertake there makes a significant contribution to my health and physical wellbeing.
As a consequence, the Liberal Democrat plans to demolish the centre were very worrying, given there were no clear indications of what arrangements would be made during the demolition period to continue to provide access to facilities elsewhere.
Now that there is a Labour majority on the council and that at a recent public meeting Paul Convery pledged opposition to the demolition of the centre, one hopes the council will begin the renovation of the Sobell Centre soon and that there will be no major interruptions to services provided there during the renovation.
