My thanks to angels

Published: 18 June, 2010

• I WOULD like to give a big thank-you to our local NHS Trust and Islington social services.

I was in University College Hospital on Boxing Day with a broken arm but I was seen within 30 minutes. As it was a bad fracture, I had to have a complex, emergency operation. Thanks to the surgeons, physios and medical staff, I am now able to move my right arm again. Within three months, I was back in the same hospital for a hip replacement, and, thanks again to the same staff, I can now walk pain-free.

Also, a big ‘ta’ to the volunteers who do your shopping. When I got home, I needed various appliances, such as a raised toilet seat and a chair and mattress, which were all provided by Islington NHS in Caledonian Road.

Another lovely surprise was a visit from Islington Rehabilitation and Homecare to see if I needed any shopping and cleaning.

They have done this with such goodwill in the past six weeks. I am sure my hip would never have healed so quickly without their help. I know all these services come out of our council taxes, but we in Islington should be grateful: I know people living in other boroughs who don’t get this service. There are a lot of ‘angels’ around the Angel! Thank you.
