How can the Town Hall chief accept her bonus?

Published: 24 June, 2010

• THAT Camden’s chief executive, Moira Gibb, should be getting a £15,997 “performance bonus” on top of her £199,961 annual salary beggars belief.

Perhaps more extraordinary is that she can accept it.

Are we meant to believe that without such a bonus Ms Gibb would perform worse?

As a professional she is surely committed to deliver her services to the highest level of her capability.

Do doctors, teachers or social workers lose interest if they are paid no more than the salary for the job?

Where is the professional pride in such senior executives that they can accept the implication that without such inducement they would be unmotivated to perform.

Such hand-outs in the “financial services” degrade the city operatives who get them.

Government locally or nationally with the ethos of public service can surely do better.
