Green lead

• READERS may be interested to know that the campaign for a London Living Wage is something the Greens have led the way on.

It was the Greens on the London Assembly who persuaded Ken Livingstone to set up his living wage unit that made proposals about a London Living Wage. It was Greens in Lewisham that put this motion to their council leading the way in this campaign.

It was the last Labour Council that tendered out so many of our services from parking to catering services. It was this that eventually led to the two-tier workforce with those employed by contractors receiving low rates of pay, fewer days holiday and lower pension entitlements. Labour didn’t try to stop this happening. So congratulations for at last making this commitment to address low pay. But its claim to be a party that takes a moral stance on this is weak.
