Curb street drinking

Published: 18 June, 2010

• IT is good to know that residents in Clerkenwell have backed plans to introduce a designated public place order so that police can control the consumption of alcohol on streets.

This is something Lib Dems in Clerkenwell have campaigned for, so I’m delighted to see our campaign has been a success.

The next step is to ensure police use these powers to deal with the problems caused by having so many licensed premises and off-licences in Clerkenwell and encourage bar owners to be responsible when they sell alcohol.

I urge all Clerkenwell residents to tell police about any problem drinking they see, whether in a public place or outside a pub.  We do not have to put up with many of the problems we have had to endure until recently.
