UK online is vital service

• NASH ALI, the new Labour leader of Camden, announced on Monday that Labour was restoring the funding to UK online centres so callously cut by the previous administration.
This is great news for some of the most disadvantaged in the borough, particularly in Kilburn where we have a number of centres, including SHELL on Boundary Road and Latin American House behind the High Road.
Whether young or old, looking for a job or trying to access information about local services, UK online is vital to making sure that those without access and/or knowledge to get online don’t lose out.
I remember the moving testimony from users at their deputation to the council under the previous regime about the importance of UK online centres.
As with the halt to sales of council homes, this announcement shows Labour is already delivering on manifesto commitments.
There are undoubtedly some very tough decisions for Camden ahead.
The new Tory-Lib Dem government is determined to hit the most vulnerable and hit people living in inner-London in a double-whammy Budget which experts have already judged as highly regressive.
Labour in Camden is determined to do all it can to implement any cuts as fairly as possible, and to shield the most vulnerable, disadvantaged and poorest in our borough from the harshest extremes of the decisions made in Westminster as best we can.
