TRIBUTES TO ELLEN LUBY - Unique way

Published: 22 July, 2010

• WE were very saddened to hear about the passing away of Ellen Luby.

Ellen was a true fighter who never gave up battling for those she felt who didn’t have a voice.

She had a unique way of bringing issues to the Town Hall to highlight the plights of those less fortunate.

She was truly one on her own!

She cared passionately about ordinary working-class people, those who she felt had been let down by the system and elected politicians.

She wasn’t a hypocrite and managed to cut through the rubbish and said things as they were.

She was a rare soul!

We remember Ellen once placing a £10 note in the handbag of a struggling young mother.

She did this without anybody knowing, just to make sure that the woman and her child could cover the cost of their next meal.

It was a side to Ellen many of us got to know and admire over the years.

During her years of illness, she displayed a degree of conviction rarely seen in ordinary people and never gave up her quest and devotion to equality and decency.

Ellen, you led an extraordinary life.

You experienced great happiness but also great sorrow, but it helped make you the exceptional person you undoubtedly were.

We will miss you very much.

Our thoughts are also with Ellen’s family.
