Tenants can’t afford this

Published: 22 July, 2010

• I AGREE that it is unforgivable that cuts are being made to housing benefits, but it is also bad for those of us who are working and have had massive rent and service charge rises which flies in the face of government guidelines (Hands off tenants – and their benefits, July 15).

Origin Housing Association (previously St Pancras & Humanist Housing Association) are setting a rent rise of £20 per week for all secure tenants (some 25 per cent rise).

I personally am having approximately a £3 rise in my service charges but some tenants are having as much as £15 and more a week rise that plus £20 a week rent rise.

How on earth do they think we can possibly afford this in this present economic climate?

I suspect that more of us will be on the dole because of these ridiculous rises that nobody can afford.
