Shameful fiasco
Published: 9 July, 2010
• THANKS to the Tribune’s front-page article we are now aware of some of the endemic problems exposed in the management of Islington Council.
I was extremely surprised and pleased to see so many fellow sufferers had bothered to attend this particular meeting, a practice which I hope, once started, will continue until we are certain the interests of residents are being effectively monitored by those highly paid officers employed to do so.
Hopefully, the impending PricewaterhouseCoopers report, commissioned earlier this year by the Lib Dem administration, will further expand the subject matter into areas and issues as yet to be announced/denounced in the near future.
My one complaint regarding the Tribune’s coverage is that it failed miserably to register the high degree of anger and disgust emanating from tenants attending the meeting.
Without these residents asking the right questions very little of the information raised during the audit would have come to the notice of the general public.
It is to be hoped our new Labour councillors will promote a far more transparent administration than the Lib Dems’ by providing a consultation process that allows us truly unfettered access to our councillors.
Well done, Tribune. Let’s keep expanding the cracks until we really know the full extent of this shameful fiasco.
