• IN seeking to protect the libraries in his patch, Conservative councillor Jonny Bucknell fails to appreciate the inevitable consequences of the punitive programme of cuts advocated by his colleagues in government.

Faced with the prospect of anything from a 25 per cent to 40 per cent reduction in the local government budget, Councillor Tulip Siddiq is surely being honest and responsible in eschewing demands for rash guarantees.

Instead she is treating the people of Camden like grown-ups and taking a rational, intelligent approach to protecting our local facilities.
