The pub that is our hub
Published: 22 July, 2010
• MAY I congratulate councillors Chris Knight and Kirsty Roberts on their efforts to save the Duke of Hamilton from demolition.
The Duke isn’t just a commercial enterprise but in the century and a half of its existence has embedded itself deep in the heart of the community.
Live music, a pub cricket club, darts competitions, all activities centred on the Duke, clearly attest to how this pub is a community hub.
Hampstead residents wish to protect their home – which as a concept transcends the mere walls of their houses to include the living, breathing, surrounding neighbourhood comprised of people connected to one another by bonds of commonality, friendship and acquaintance.
The Duke of Hamilton has been central in forging these bonds and maintaining them.
