Paying for educational choice for class of 2010

Published: 30 July, 2010

• SO Prime Minister David Cameron is terrified about prospects of his kids going to a state school (This school’s class is not in debate, David, Diary July 16).

When my kids went to school back in the late 1980s, I wasn’t terrified but I was extremely worried we had chosen the right school for them.

Nobody knows how their children will turn out academically and if they go to a good secondary school enabling them to get to university, which most of us want, then it is a large plus.

I would have had no hesitation at the time in sending my children to private school if I had had the money.

Remember politicians and others can afford private tutors for their children.

We will never eradicate the class system which still exists here in the UK while a career in politics can be based on how well off you are.
