Lisle Street best of both worlds
Published: 30 July, 2010
• FOLLOWING the pedestrianisation of Lisle Street and the bottom part of Wardour Street, I would like to thank all those involved.
The easiest thing for the authorities would have been to follow the same plan as the rest of Chinatown and to ban cars until 7am.
But I am particularly grateful to Roger Austin of Westminster City Council and Gary Mather of West One Joint Venture for their thorough consultation, and for altering the plan so that traffic is now permitted between midnight and noon.
We now have the best of both worlds.
The street is safe for pedestrians when it is at its busiest, but the police can still patrol in unmarked cars all through the small hours.
Thank you and well done!
