It’s enough to make one weep

• MAY I draw your readers attention to the removal of the beautiful willow from our open space, opposite the empty National Temperance Hospital, without as much as a by-your-leave to residents like me, who have lived for many years in this block.

I know I speak for most residents, to whom I have spoken, and for the staff of the West Euston Partnership, who are absolutely disgusted with Camden’s behaviour, regarding this issue.

Not one word of consultation or notice was given to us.

Is it any wonder that people living on estates, such as ours have no confidence in politicians from whatever party, who only consult us when election time come around.

What are our local representatives doing when a 30- to 40-foot tree is removed, and two others are butchered of their limbs, and nobody knew anything about it, except the tree department.

I am minded of a poem by George Pope Morris, that I learnt at school, and which began:
Woodman, spare that tree!
Touch not a single bough!
In youth, it sheltered me,
And I’ll protect it now

But not in Camden!!!
