Group against overdevelopment
Published: 8 July, 2010
• LOCAL residents have contacted each other since you highlighted serious concerns over the Abbey Area Regeneration in some of their letters, (Enough of tower blocks! June 17 and Protect the green space June 24).
A group of us have arranged for a public meeting to be held in the Abbey Community Centre, Belsize Road , NW6, at 7pm on Tuesday July 13.
At this meeting we hope to expand our group, Against Overdeveloping Abbey, and have an open discussion about the proposals as they currently stand.
We wish to get feedback from residents of the various estates, surrounding streets and key stakeholders, so we can see as a neighbourhood, what the key objections and aspirations are.
The consensus appears to be gross overdevelopment of the area with little regard for rights of way, rights of light and green spaces, and suitable accommodation.
Equally there appears to be little consideration of the pressures that such development creates on the local area, schools places, parking, service charges and the existing retail centres.
Official consultation arranged by Camden Council and GVA Grimley on this pre-planning stage ends on July 15 and asks for consideration of three options, two of which have 24- and 20-storey tower blocks.
Anyone affected by the proposal or interested in the future of this area is welcome to attend on July 13.
