Gardens of delight

• WE all too often hear of poor workmanship and lack of dedication to doing jobs well.
I would like to give an example where the opposite is true.
A few years ago, St Martin’s Gardens in Camden Town was a rundown place.
When it was refurbished by the council, a great improvement, I feared that, as happens so often, an impressive capital outlay would be ruined by a failure to maintain.
However, I would like to draw attention to the dedicated work of the gardener there, who very clearly takes pride in the park and obviously puts in effort well beyond the minimum required by his job.
For instance, I saw him at work dead-heading the roses last Sunday afternoon.
I only hope that the forthcoming cuts do not affect this excellent work, which would reduce the quality of life for residents, especially for the many who do not have gardens.
