David engages in serious debate

• DAVID Miliband should have known about Camden’s housing issues (Crisis? What housing crisis? Miliband unaware of bitter homes repair battle, July 1).

But the fact that he came to Queen’s Crescent Community Centre to an open meeting and was prepared to talk about anything shows a leadership contender unafraid to have a serious political debate with all-comers.

This is David’s great strength.

He is an egalitarian by nature.

He wants there to be more power in communities so he is debating with local people and investing in community organising.

He is also a strong leader.

I am backing David because he is the only contender able to articulate Labour values of equality, solidarity, freedom and responsibility, values Labour machine politics latterly lost sight of.

If we are to defeat the coalition government and really give power back to people we need someone who can inspire with an alternative, distinctive, view of the world.

David is starting to do that.

We should back him.
