Change the tune, Terry

Published: 30 July, 2010

• COUNCILLOR Terry Stacy was prominent in your pages when he was leader of Islington Council, often triumphantly claiming as a Liberal Democrat gift to the borough a grant coming from the previous Labour government.

The schools’ refurbishment programme springs to mind as a typical example.

Although he is no longer in power but in opposition, Cllr Stacy still regularly bombards us with comments.

He has a new tune now: how could the new Labour council consider cutting this, that and the other favourite project?

I’m amazed he hasn’t yet realised his previous Lib Dem council operated under a generous Labour government whereas now the Labour council is suffering massive cuts inflicted by a Conservative-Lib Dem coalition.

Perhaps Cllr Stacy should quietly consider whether anybody really wants to hear what he thinks of the council’s financial struggles when cuts are being inflicted with the support and encouragement of his own party.
