Champion of the poor
Published: 8 July, 2010
• IN all my years in the UK (47 in total), one of the nicest people I have met here, is unarguably the great Dame Beryl Bainbridge, who passed away on July 2.
She was not only a great writer but a champion of the poor, and the oppressed.
She always had time for others, and was a modest person and a great lady.
I would like to say thank you to her for being my friend, and may god bless her immensely.
Her spirit will linger on at the Camden Tricycle, where she will be sadly missed.
Camden Town won’t be the same again, without her presence.
