Cap fits?

Published: 29 July, 2010

• YOU cannot fault Keith Sedgwick’s logic (Government cap fits, July 22) about the problem of finding funding for housing benefits when the bill has risen, according to him, by 50 per cent in five years.

However, the very people who will suffer from this “cap” are the poorer members of society.

The National Housing Federation estimates the move will add 425,000 to the homeless figures across London, some of whom no doubt are presently living in the ward of Gospel Oak which Keith Sedgwick previously represented as a councillor.

They will either be forced to move away from family and friends or reduce their expenditure on food and other essentials.

Camden residents face some of the highest rents in the country. We can obviously not expect help for the most vulnerable from members of the Tory party.
