Big jester festival

Published: 15 July, 2010

• THANK you for publishing photos of our very successful West Hampstead Jester Festival (Jester lot of fun! Tricycle’s big festival, July 8).

However, I feel, on behalf of the Jester Festival committee, I should correct you on two important points.

First, although the Tricycle Theatre were very welcome at the festival, it is not their “big festival” – they had nothing to do with organising it – they were simply participants in the entertainments.

The festival is a local community festival which, for the last three years has been organised by a small, dedicated, independent, group for the benefit of local residents and largely sponsored by local businesses with support from Camden Council.

We are very grateful for all the support.

It was, partly thanks to the weather, one of out most successful festivals for many years and hugely enjoyed by many people, but it all takes place on Fortune Green which is a comparatively small area (unlike Grange Park where the Kilburn Festival was held at the weekend).

I can’t imagine who thought that “more than 2,000 people attended”.

There simply wouldn’t have been room! We all like to boast of our own success but this number is beyond our wildest imaginings and, to be honest, with that many people, it wouldn’t have been very comfortable!
